China and some other countries like India are in a unique position to start a real revolution in the IT industry.

They have access to western technology, their research, because they are implementing these ideas. Intellectual property is a very loose concept in some of these countries. You can not contain individuals who have learned in their jobs.

You will see competing companies popping up soon from these countries, and they are producing the same product that their western counter part. They have the know-how, cheap labour, cheap infrastructure, everything. You do not need a road network to ship the products, it is all electronic and instantly available globally.

It is only a matter of time when they start to really hurt the bottom line of american companies.

This could be compared to USA/Japan auto industry competition. To survive, USA has to impose penalties to Japanese auto makers unless they bring their factories to the USA (free trade! NOT). The fact of the matter is that free trade is a double edged sword. Once these cheap labour countries get on the roll, free trade will be history because USA will forget the free-trade mantra as soon as it does not fit its purposes anymore.
