Absolutely..
The executives in charge of the money here in the US will not do ANYTHING unless they will see very high and very short term profits. Read: If I don't see a quick bonus for me in it, I'm not going to stick out my neck. It's a poisoning of the business community by the MBA mentality. The very same mentality that teaches business people that they don't ACTUALLY have to know ANYTHING about the business they are attempting to manage. duh. I've seen it in every I've had and it's sad.
What I see for us is becomming just like France. An embittered populace that supports a selfish and opulent government and upper class. I see us trending to a service based economy where the meganationals have desserted the country for cheaper workforces and the citizens are forced to create businesses for themselves or not make it.
Yes we can avoid it, but the sheer greed of the current business economy makes it not liekly.
Yes, we are sabotaging our future by cutting corners today in the education. But education should not be a local concern, rather a national one. Having local taxes decide a school's funding is paramount to social eliteism. Making sure that ALL american students (and it should be americans that get the highest priority) have access to the best education is the way to make sure we succeed. If I'm not mistaken, that was the mentality of the 50's and 60's. The country has reaped the benefits of striving for that standard, but the lesson was lost on the students as they are the ones that are now cutting the budgets. I can hardly wait to see what develops over the next 15 years.
