Why don't we pay attention anymore?

Bad name, but a great topic: I don't care about calling it something like ADT, but this is so true.

There are so many people who run around all day thinking they are important and connected because they are responding via their BlackBerrys and IM. They pride themselves on getting hundreds of emails a day because they are "in the loop".

What they don't realize, is that they are not in control - everyone else controls them. It's classic Pavlovian response.

Then there are those of us who have the wisdom to connect only when needed. We are confident enough to disconnect for some down time. We aren't afraid of missing something. Our jobs do not define us.

There is power in not responding right away. Try it. The younger folks who take to this technology just don't understand that they lose power when they are connected all of the time. Very few industries move so rapidly (seconds) where you need to have a constant flow of information in order to make decisions.; Posted by: Paul C.
