Here's where I'd direct a youth today
Trades!

Right now there is such a shortage of skilled trades people that it can take up to a year or more to hire them.

Energy sector work is also huge right now, they can't find enough people to work in that field.

Also in my expeience I've seen that every job lost due to technology means 2 jobs created elsewhere.

For example: If you lay off 30 people due to an automated process that allows you to be more competive and offer lower prices. The lower prices in turn allows the company purchasing you product to expand due to the savings. That exapansion requires the hiring of 60 people. I've seen this exact thing happen.
