I do not agree at all
"I thought I was the one arguing that programmers should be paid for their work. If someone does invent a saleable program, shouldn't he be concerned about open source producing a free equivalent and thus eliminating the well-earned profits?

If you remain consistent with what you said, you'll agree with me that open source is a hazard."

I cannot in any way agree with your assessment. There are a multitude of people feeding their families very well today because they work on OSS projects for pay.

Your arguments sound astoundingly like those of the RIAA and MPAA who are constantly whining about lost revenues due to P2P piracy when their P&L's show constant revenew growth. If you can name for me one documented case where a product was superior, sold at a fair price and ruined by OSS, I will quit opposing you, but to this point all you have shown is the inability to compete in a new market.

How is Adobe still in business? You can do 99% with the Gimp that you can with Photoshop. The Gimp is free, Photoshop is anything but. No one seems to be abandoning Adobe though. I haven't heard of any plans for massive layoffs.

As much as I like Open Office, I do not see MS suffering. Where are their layoffs in this divission?

You need to get a clue and get ready for the brave new world. It is different every day than it used to be. The only constant in the universe is change. Get used to it.
