The Unix folks
are not losing jobs to Linux, they are losing them to Microsoft. Where is your data proving Linux is costing Unix admins jobs? Or even Unix programmers for that matter? Now let's apply this to Microsoft servers, an equivalant MCSE is at least 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of a Unix admin. So if you replace your Unix servers with Microsoft, why retrain someone that would:

1 - Most likely not downgrade his/her skill set.
2 - Most definitly will not take the massive pay cut

Now if the same company moves to Linux, then the Unix admins stay. They know Unix, Linux is not to gosh awful far removed... no learning curve, no migration headaches (i.e. moving from Unix to Microsoft) and since the cost of the OS and much of the tools / software is reduced, the Unix admin doesn't have to take such a steep pay cut.
