How does this make any sense??
"If you want to program as a hobby, do something that is useful but not enough to be saleable. Who knows, you might even end up having something you can sell. Then you'll be in commercial software, dreading an open source project that takes away your livelihood."

Very few people accomplish goals that they do not actively pursue. How in the world can you try to code something that is crappy enough to be worthless, but end up with a product that is for sale? Even if your product is OSS, what keeps you from selling it?

The advice you give is great if you want to learn to code in a sloppy fassion and be a slave to a company all of your life. If you want something better, ignor Anton's advice, code the last great killer app, license it any way YOU wish, and sell it to anyone who wants it.

Anton can work for the man as long as he likes.
