Remember why the dot com companies tanked?
"You cannot give away your primary product and survive."

I forget who I'm quoting, probably someone in Time, Newsweek, US News and World Report, the New York Times, and No_Ax's daily in Des Moines.

And the companies trying to survive around Linux and other open source projects are proving the point again. Much simpler to sell a product and make money than to charge extravagantly for getting the product to work. Products can be built atop open source, as long as they're sold.

Clinton and Alan ("irrational exuberance") Greenspan allowed the bubble to grow until it popped, taking billions out of retirement accounts and causing people to work to age 95 to make up for the disaster. Along with all the unemployment that followed immediately.

But while the bubble grew, people thought they had a lot of money and spent it. This made the economy look good. Fake money will do that. Return to reality and all that spending just increased debt.

So there's your wonderful Clinton economy: fake money and accumulated disaster. Yes, he deserves a lot of credit, which he should have to repay after the money runs out.

Sorry, more political than intended. Please don't consider this a Bush endorsement. Take it as an objective economic analysis backed by the calm wisdom of years. Of course.
