Again...
"Interests me that so many people here insist on the rightness of putting others out of work, or lowering their salaries.
For me, I can't think of anything more harmful, aside from a physical assault."

Hmmm, the majority of jobs that have been lost the last couple of years have been due to the following:

Dot com bubble burst - 90% of the e-commerce businesses were founded on bad design and really bad management. Much of the debacle was due to inflation of product value and at the time there were not many coders like today. John and Jane Q. Public got smart and pulled funding...

Many coding jobs have been outsourced (not open source, out sourced) to other nations and the local employees... terminated. Has nothing to do with Open Source and everything to do with major corps trying to save a buck for the CEO and his merry band of over paid twits.

Our economy was doing pretty good under Clinton (even though I disliked him as a president, I will give him his due) but now under Shrub (I love that!!! Thanks Tech Diva!) it is tanking again with guess who taking the majority of the load? The little guy still.

I have not seen any news, no reports, have heard not one developer anywhere state they have lost thier job due to Open Source. Where is this happening? An excellent post was made earlier asking about a carpenter being put out of work or affected if you build your own add on to your home. (I am paraphrasing from memory) The same applies to Open Source. Who loses? In the end it seems to be working just fine. If it was such a problem then Open Source the GPL and Linux would have shrivled and died years ago.
