Emergencies, not constant state of emergency.
You can certainly code effectively for 10-12 hours a day for short periods. If you are having to do it all the time, your company is overstaffed and you are probably in the office 10-12 hours but are probably talking or daydreaming away much of that extra time. Or making stupid mistakes and then spending hours redoing the work because you were too fragged to do it right the first time.
