My prediction..
I think it's going to be more a combination of GPS together with implants in the automobile to coordinate with other autos + traffic control, as well as visual sensors that will recognize objects (pedestrians, cats and dogs, etc..)are respond accordingly. I don;t think we need the sensors imbedded in the road any more. I hear they're already doing identity checks using scanning of faces in crowds. There continues to be so many advances in robotics and artificial intelligence I find it hard to believe that we still let people drive themselves and cause the accidents they do. You?d think the booze industry would fund such an initiative
