I think that's coming
They were testing roads with magnetics in them. The cars would follow the magnetics on the freeway and follow each other in a train like fashion to the destination.

So on those long stretches your car would drive it's self and it would turn control back over when you hit exit areas. Not sure how the testing is going though, haven't seen anything on the topic in about 5 years now.
