Point is work itself becomes more scarce...
Point is between offshoring and increased productivity of better software and automation, it may be work itself that is more scarce. Do we compete against one another willing to do more and more work longer hours to chase the fewer jobs that remain? Won't this increase the differences beteen the employed workers who are smart or lucky enough versus the under and unemployed? I don't believe there is now enough work for the capacity of work needed worldwide and will only be worse with more innovation and increasing pool of educated workers. What is the point of better machines if we are working longer hours? I am for productivity and better machines of course, but think we should look at a reduced workweek to keep more and more people employed - else were are all going to economically injure ourselves in this race to the bottom. Also many people have to constantly educate themselves at the to keep up with the fields which should be considered in any overall cost/benefit thinking. Progress is often from the eye of the beholder and is not always without detriment to others.
