Prophecy
For anyone to try to predict the future all the way to more than 20 years ahead is a total *@&^# ...... well you know. One thing for sure though, is there will be changes and advancements in Technology. There may be shifts in how things are done but there will always be more and more technology; or at least newer and newer technology.
Now let me tell you Gartner what I can predict. But I'm not a lunatic to try to predict all the way to 20 years. I will only forecast to maybe 3 to 5 years.
I can already see great advancement in Technology happening today especially in Open Source computing. Global collaboration that innovates not only technology but also a new social and business model that we all can build on. No longer will comupter users be dependant on one vendor like Microsoft and be forced to pay expensive Windows tax. Yes, computers a we know them now will be radically different. Yes they will be easier to use, and yes almost self healing (fixes it's self to a certaing degree). But computers will no longer be those boxes under your desk. They will be made up of many miniture devices that are wirelessly interconnected and interactive. These systems will be so advanced that they can do many tasks but you will need IT professional to customize, "Engineer" and "Program" them. Almost Every device and machine will be interconnected and part of a wireless network. That's why we are going to IPv6. I can go on for hours about the future but I'll leave it to your imagination. One thing is for sure though, The future is bright especially with systems changing to Linux. Currently, there is a big need for IT professionals migrating Systems from Windows to Linux.
