I believe it was a Republican that opened our nation up to the flood of cheap foreign goods from China. Does the name "Nixon" ring a bell?

And your description could cover most of the last 40+ presidents who have held office. Nice guys with spotless reputations can't be effective politicians because they just haven't got that "ruthless" gene.

No matter which side of the political fence you sit, you need to recognize that politics is a mean, nasty, slimy wrestle in the swamp and you have to be willing to roll in the muck to win. This is true all the way down to the local dogcatcher race. That's the level our "leaders" have sunk to. Truth and issues don't matter as much as how many lies you can get away telling about the other guys.

As for the BJs, if you read your history and not count on blogs for information, you will see that Republicans as well as Democrats were all getting a bit of that action. Eisenhower, Roosevelt, Wilson (before the stroke), Johnson, etc. all had their "special friends," too, as did many First Ladies. Rumor has it that JFK received some of the same favors as Clinton from more than one "friend" during his term. And if that is what floated his boat, B-F'ing-D!

Making a literal Federal case over a dress stain and a BJ does tend to prevent one from tending to important matters. Personally, I don't give a rat's behind what kind of wild "three dwarfs, a pony and a trampoline" sex our leaders are having as long as they are taking care of the business my tax dollars are paying for.

We are less civilized than the Europeans about our leaders' mating habits, that is for sure. When that French leader died a few years back, his wife, his mistress and all the kids stood together at the funeral in united grief. It wasn't a big deal there, but here the press went nuts about the way it looked. And when the Clinton fuss hit the presses, we became a laughing-stock because of our schizo views concerning sex (It's OK in the entertainment business, but God forbid anyone have it in real life!)

We as a nation are swinging so far to the "Right" that we are scaring Pat Buchanan!
