America's "Empire"

I can understand the need for globalization. The world will probably be a better place when other countries economies catch up to where the U.S. is. This will cause a shift in demand and create more economic growth on a global scale. However, I think we (Americal) should be careful about how we do this. Free markets and free competition only exists where resources (capital, labor...whatever) flow freely from one place to the other. Currently capital flows much more freely to and from other countries than labor. In other words, you can hire out of the U.S. pretty easily, but you can't just decide to go get a job in India or China. If that were so American IT workers might move to India or China which would drive up the cost of living in India or China, bringing the market eventually to equilibrium. What we have now is arbitrage, where corporations are taking advantage of inefficiencies of the market to the detriment of workers in that sector. I believe this should be managed somehow. Ideally workers should compete on merit of their skill, not because a dollar buys more over there than here.
