Euphemisms
This sort of thing has been going on for a long time. The problem is that it doesn't fool anyone and inevitably, the euphemism takes on all the bad connotations of the original term, at which point it has to be replaced. This leads to a never-ending cycle of perjoration as one perfectly good term is ruined after another.

Better to defend a practice openly, if it's defensible at all (kudos to John Carroll for doing just that). If it's not defensible, except through trickery, half-truths and euphemisms, it's time to give it up.
