- The number is probably MUCH higher
- Since the study "is limited to companies in the technology industry, such as Internet service providers and software publishers" it fails to take into consideration the IT staff that were suspended at all the other non-tech industry businesses. What percentage of the IT staff at GM for example were laid off during this period? Granted the percentage of IT workers to non-IT workers is higher at those technology related businesses but just about every business needs computers to run their operations today and those businesses usually have their own IT staff. How much smaller are those staffs today?
