Sure it is -- this is the USA. An adult can sign away practically anything by contract.

Yup. As confirmed, repeatedly, by the bills I pay for spim.
I've never sent an SMS in my life -- but I've paid for thousands.

The really great ones are when your carrier has something that they are convinced you just must see right away, so they SMS it to you. Then charge you for receiving it. All in all, I can see why they think those messages are so important.
