You do not automatically lose quality offshore
I'd like to see the average American car run as well or as long as the average Toyota. Even your trade person is not safe, just ask the American assembly line worker that was replaced by robots. Today I had a problem with Travelocity. My first call was answered by an American call center. I received horrible service and the supervisor did not return my call in the 30 min promised (they had their subordinate call me instead in 2 hours) Before the American got their act together I got impatient and called back, this time the call center that answered the call was in Bombay India. (strange how all of them seem to have European first + last names, isn't it? :P ) The people in Bombay handled the call in 10 minutes and that includes speaking with the supervisor in Bombay who did an excellent job handling the problem. Yes, they did have Indian accents but I had no difficulty understanding them, less difficult than it is sometimes to understand someone from the deep south. The Indian call center was courteous and handled the problem quickly, much better than the American call center did.

Result:
American call center s*cked, everyone is fired.
Indian call center A++

If quality alone is the only reason to use American labor then we are all already scr*wed.
