Successful businesses hire far away
From the article:
"Companies founded in the Bay Area will typically maintain the majority of their workforce in the region until their first products or services gain market traction and key business processes stabilize," John Ciacchella, A.T. Kearney vice president, said in a statement. "However, as these companies expand and mature, many of the new jobs that stay local will focus on management of expanding business operations that are outsourced, offshored and distributed to other regions."

So once these companies find a product that sells and how to make it, they ship the jobs away. The people who remain manage workers in distant lands. And lead the good life in California with their newfound wealth.

I assume the people who helped them build the business but didn't have an ownership interest are laid off to wait to assist another small group of those trying to get rich.

Nice system for the few at the top. Hard scrabble for the rest.
