- competitiveness enablers
-
Interesting article. Recent discussions on Zdnet involving the HP identity theft, WiMax, Iphone and Abramoff have identified competitiveness enablers which if allowed to proceed will ensure US dominance economically for quite some time, possibly 1000 years.
The first enabler is the unique form of democracy in the USA which younger democracies have not yet followed, and likely can not follow.
1. In the USA, the democratic system is designed to protect the citizens from government.
That design of the founding fathers is what allows US citizens to speak freely about any public figure without as much fear of retaliation from the rich and powerful.
In the younger democracies (Germany, Italy, France, Canada etc) the system is designed to provide piece and order under an all to often false assumption that government will be good. You can not just come out and say Bill Gates is a robber baron unless you are willing to defend that in a court of law. In the younger democracies those who speak like we do in the USA, usually must have a staff of lawyers or be lawyers themselves. This means the general population can not participate in Web 2.0
The second enabler builds on Web 2.0 and obsoletes technology that is dumbed on US consumers by multi-national corporations.
2. WiMax, in combination with Web 2.0 has the enabling capabilities to dominate the world economies.
Since World War II, the USA has saved broadband spectrum for support of its brand of democracy. The original idea was TV.
Here diverse ideas were to be made available to the citizenry for no additional charge with the notion that the population would become educated and vote that way. The spectrum chosen allowed rural and city viewing but the promise was not met.
I suspect corporate interests thwarted this idea. But there were also public relation/law firms that manipulated the TV media so that few of the diverse views and new ways of doing things got presented. Sometimes spectrum was leased so it could not be used to get diverse views and new products presented. An attempt to bind the media and eliminate wireless has and is still being made. That attempt was similar to the binding of energy distributions to pipe lines and copper wire.
But now there is Web 2.0. Web 2.0 means citizens write and make videos as well as view them. The promise of Web 2.0 is met by using the saved broadband spectrum, currently unused and about to be freed up via the Hidef TV laws. But, we must fight for this. It is a fight for freedom. No other nation can match the capability because the spectrum is already controlled by non government entities in those countries. - Posted by: mighetto Posted on: 07/12/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
