That is so true
I once worked as a consultant for a company where I was brought in to get the project done. They then kept me on to keep the project running for 10 years. In all that time they never assigned an employee to work with me to see what I was doing, how i was doing it and could they take over and do it themselves. Finally at the end of almost 10 years they finally assigned me one, I got her up to speed and then they canceled the contract. Then for a year I was an on call consultant to answer questions.

While there I installed their payroll, personnel and benefits system, installed a whole new union contracted mess, designed and built a cafeteria benefits system where I even designed the forms, worked witht he lawyers to make sure it was all legal, met with the insurance people to go over the plans offered, etc. When I put it in place, the benefits manager went on a 3-week cruise and I had to handle all of that mess as well.

I felt like shaking them a few times but they paid me well and treated me well. They just had no concept of how to handle a consultant at all. I could have really screwed them up with all the federal regulations but luckily for them I didn't. They would never have known a thing about it.
