You might want to look at market trends. .NET is currently used more widely than Java.
"Does Microsoft show any kindness? Go ask Netscape, Sybase, Dell etc "
Does open source show any kindness.
The reason Netscape went out of business was because Apache was giving away a web server for free which competed with Netscapes web server. Netscape could not compete and hence they went bust.
As for Sybase, Dell etc. I dont have any issues with Microsoft.
Infact when Alcatel Lucent filed lawsuits against Gateway, Dell and others it was Microsoft who bailed them out.
