Unscientifically
Years ago, I had to remove malware from my daughter's computer.

I removed the .exe's a few times and they always came back. So I started checking for where the source was lodged, aside from in Restore.

The malware was in java, but executed from pre-fetch. For some reason the protective software I was using at the time had difficulty checking both places.

So 100% of all successful malware attacks on all computers I have owned for some years have been related to Sun java.

Saying that any software is safe creates a vulnerability as big as any in the software itself.
