Apple patches are different than OS upgrades.
You keep talking about the $129 upgrades as tho they are patches. Each one has
included new under-the-hood improvements like Core Audio and Core Image. Apple
could have waited to sell these every few years like MS but wants to let customers
have the latest and greatest. Besides, it takes time for the developers to start using
the new components. By getting the new functions out at a reasonable rate Apple has
let us use these abilities instead of waiting for MS vaporware that turns out to be not
what was originally touted.
