Perspective

Daylight savings data times change somewhere in the world all the time, that it
hasn't in North America for a while should be no cause for alarm.

In Australia our local authorities change DST for individual states because of
sporting events (e.g. Sydney Olympics, Melbourne Commonwealth Games, etc).
The impacts are negligible.

An interesting aside is that Australia has different daylight savings times in the
one time-zone, with some states not observing daylight savings at all (e.g.
Queensland). The presents challenges for boarder towns like Albury-Wodonga
(NSW-Victoria boarder) where temporary changes in one state has significant
impact of things like bus timetables. Changes for sporting events are usually for
only one year in one state.

Most *nix systems (including Mac OS X) handle changes to daylight savings by
updating the tzdata file. You can read a good overview at http://en.wikipedia.org/
wiki/Tzdata. A subset of the file is used by later versions of the JRE (1.3.1_18+,
1.4.2_11+, 5.0_u6+, 6+). This file can be updated without changing the version
of either the OS or JRE.

Relax people it is not that big a deal. Ignore chicken little just as we did for Y2K.
