- That has not been my experience Marty
-
Let?s make this clear Marty; you were working for a Russian company or at least one with significant Russian interaction in the upper management. The problems that people state still happened, you just did not need to deal with it. Try starting your own business in Russia sport and see if the picture is just as rosey.
There are a lot of Russian companies doing business as a western company, for example the Citi bank in Moscow is not the Citi bank in America. I imaging that the American Citi bank as some sort of relationship with its Russian counterpart, but from my exchanges with them it must be very remote relationships.
This whole bribing thing is so inbred in the Russian culture that it is how business is done in that country. Even the students bribe their teachers with gifts prior to exams. You might call that tradition, but I still call it a bribe. If my wife does not give the teacher an adequate gift then her daughter suffers for it. Heck, my wife even feels compelled to get a gift for the teacher when she comes to America for a visit.
Get a speeding ticket in America and tribe to bribe the police officer and you go to jail
Get a speeding ticket in Russia and do not bribe the police office and you might go to jail.
My wife works in the upper management of a Russian firm in Moscow, a large portion of the budget is set aside for bribes.
Get the picture Marty? If you did not see this then you either did not spend a great deal of time in Russia or you had your head in the sand. - Posted by: balsover Posted on: 02/17/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
