Alternatively you COULD employ a Distributed scheme. Using NFSv4 w/Kerberos and LDAP you could access your data (via automount-driven file system virtualization) anywhere on the network. Placing data (and replicated+served applications) on the client systems improves access and allows for continuation of work with a total network loss. If you plan your enterprise out properly, there may be NO NEED for ANY centralized servers. But then your company would not make any money . . .
