Containers is the way to go when you can use the same kernel.
It is just so much more efficient. You only have to have one copy of the kernel, Apache, etc, in memory at one time. Also, think how much less likely a cache miss is with containers!!

If you need to run two different kernels on the same machine, you could use both XEN and containers on the same machine, but, data centers of any size, will put different kernels on different machines, with NO need for XEN.
