You'd think someone applying for an office job
would at least know how to use MS Office (or better yet, be knowledgeable or enterprising enough to use whatever suite you put in front of them) and basic file management. But I must say, I am shocked at how few people I interview can can even do the basic stuff. And even worse, when we go to a recruiter (like say an Accountemps), they'll say these same people who can't put a basic business letter plus envelope together or create a simple one page spreadsheet got top marks on their computer tests.

I accept the fact that I have to train people to do certain things on a spreadsheet or word, especially when it comes to imported data extraction and analysis. But most of these people don't even know the stuff they teach you in a one day beginners course for Excel, Word, or Windows. Lack of basic file management skills especially gets under my skin, I just don't get how that is possible in this day and age, and that seems to be the #1 problem I encounter for both the young and old.
