Problems w/logic
First of all, the ownership logic is wrong: Somebody else "owns" your code. Doesn't matter if you copied absolutely nothing, it's their code, not yours - even if they never laid a hand on it. Doesn't sound very logical to me!

Second of all, there's a lack of logic in this statement:

Today, the cost of filing a patent can run from $8,000 to $10,000.

"Lawyers have priced it beyond the reach of the average guy," Norris said, adding, "If you get rid of all patents, you cripple the motivation to create."

Makes perfect sense! It costs $10,000 to file a patent, so if you make them cheaper, then the average guy can afford them and loses all motivation to create!

Huh? Could somebody explain the "logic" in this?

I think there's more rationalization and pretending than real logic here.

"With patents, an individual can succeed against big companies,"

Yeah, that's like saying an arrow can hit a warship. An arrow can hit a warship, but it's not going to do any damage.

And the wasrhip can strike back with its big guns - even if you succeed, the company can fire back with its own patent portfilio and sink your little wooden boat.

I hate to say this, but if you get in the crosshairs of a big company, it probably won't matter if you have your own patents. They can afford the ligitation more than you can.
