I think in order for something to be eligible for patent
the patent applicant should have at least a working prototype. The idea of applying for a patent that technologically won't be possible for 2 to 10 more years, and that patent being granted at or near the time it does become technologically possible is one way people make these goldmines without doing much work.

Merely thinking of an idea should not be rewarded with a patent. It should be thought of and proven it can be produced in order for a patent to be granted.
