Oh I am sorry 200 years ago.
I thought we were focusing on bulk of patents created last decades.

I agree some had to be first. For example basics for cryptography were developed... hundreds years ago in China (that's the fact). Now their derivative works can be patented in different forms in the USA including basics.

As far as enecting patent law, bear in mind that Europe consists of many indpendent countries and patent law is teritorial to every single of them. Well, at least it used to be until recently. On the other hand US Patent will not work, be enforcible in many - if not most - places of this world as long as you do not do business with the USA on its territory. You can use WTO as utility to leverage US PAtent, but it may not work if someone pulls out the fact when USA uses WTO and how.
