Having been at he consulting game for a bit, I've had the opportunity to see it travel the same circle many times.
New "gee whiz" concepts come into fashion (anyone remember quality circles?) and consultants not wanting to look like they are "out of date" jump on them. Companies hire them, spend bucks on some concept that is unproven in the market, and eventually drop the entire thing.
No, a good consultant understands that there are basics to business that fads or trends simply can not replace. (Hey, you don't need profits, you need volume.
