I prefer to think that electricity will flow more like computing

The days of the behemoth companies are numbered, corporate mainframes are replaced by PCs and the grid with massive power plants, already creaking under the strain, will be replaced by smaller local solutions backed up by local inter-connections.

Windmills and solar don't need the massive staff and infrastructure of the old behemoths. They're no good for smelting aluminum but could be adequate for local communities. This is not like desiging your own car - the generating units are standard and need relatively little maintenance.

As for computing, eventually someone will get the design of standard inter-connecting modules right and why bother running them elsewhere?
