Possibly but

MS is probably the only company in the industry that could jump into this and undercut everyone else just to gain share. It's their motto isn't it? They have the means to be a major player right from the start where others will need to grow slowly and find funding along the way. Look at every facet of their company that they acquired, stole, or built. They simply throw a ton of money at it and make themselves a contender. With that said, if tomorrow the IT world were to be magically transformed to a utility computing model then I think Billy and his gang would need to go buy an island and retire because Windows, as we know it, would be dead. But, because of the snail pace of this transition and if it is to actually happen, MS would probably be in it as a contender. A 200 dollar desktop OS would eventually die but MS wouldn't.
