IT departments in 2010

IT departments HAVE to exist in 2010 and beyond.

An outside service company may know more about IT tools and how to use them. But they can never be that expert in your business to be able to decide what needs to be done for your business. Your staff has to be sufficiently knowledgable in IT tools and in your work so that they can specify to the outside company what needs to be done.

For example a lender had allowed borrowers to make payment for the current month or future months. I had sent a check for two months payment and sent back coupons for both months. But in the third month I got hit with a finance charge because a programmer had programmed that if payment was not received in a given month, add finance charge the next month.

Conversely, if the outside service company was such an expert in your business that it can truly provide the necessary solutions, they should as well get into your business and be your competitor.
