First, note that I do use some software from MS (predominantly Office).

Second, your original argument was that the only criterion for choosing a particular product should be its functionality, which I disagree with. Yes (and as I noted in my previous post), the sins of MS are not on par with the extreme examples I used in my argument. But there are ideological reasons why one would choose not to support MS. They have been convicted of antitrust violations. Clearly, their monopoly position has led to a great deal of stagnation in the computing world. For some, their unethical behavior is enough to warrant a boycott.

IE has remained virtually unchanged for years and years now, mostly because there were no viable competing products. Now that Firefox (and to a lesser degree, Opera and Safari) have made a splash, MS is finally taking steps to produce a modern up-to-date browser. I have no doubt that if the trend continues, and users choose products other than IE, that will only put further pressure on MS to innovate and improve IE. You may feel satisfied with IE7, if it brings the browser up to the equivalent level of the alternatives (although given the year and a half before it arrives, the other browsers will have seen some progress by then). Personally, I'd rather keep the pressure on MS, and see if they can actually do something better.

Then again, as a Mac user, IE7 is not going to be an option available to me, so the point is, in some ways, moot.
