The power of the consumer
---This idea of not using software because of who made it is just plain daft! ---

Sorry, can't agree here. This is one of the few ways that consumers have power over corporations. Deciding not to buy a company's product because you don't like their policies is a perfectly sound and effective way of voicing your opinion. Should you buy clothes from a company that runs sadistic sweatshops, even if the clothes look really nice? Should you buy products from companies that contribute to terrorist organizations? Should you buy anything from a company like WalMart that treats its employees like dirt and devastates local economies?

Perhaps these issues don't matter to you, and you'll keep supporting companies that make the world a much worse place. But until consumers stand up for themselves, we'll be doomed to live in a world of Enrons and Worldcoms.

(note that I'm not trying to imply that MS has done anything on the level of any of the companies mentioned above, I'm instead trying to discuss the general principle of keeping your $ away from companies whose policies you don't agree with)
