I'm in the same mess with my Acer Tablet PC. The Restore CD requires the Acer Combo drive which can only be found for $250-$350. Acer reps admitted it, and after 5 different drives [other than Acer Combo drives], I can say it is confirmed.

Like Acer, it is technological extortion, even printer cartridges from Epson and Dell have technology preventing competition.

I think that the DMCA is quickly gaining ground as the legal baseball bat to the knee.
