This is actually a pretty good metaphore here. No you are not imune to "lead poisoning," but you are less likely to get shot if you do a few things. You could move to a neighborhood with fewer gun toting psychos. You could purchase and wear a bullet proof vest. You could get politically active on gun control (not something I agree with, but you could do it). You can do a whole host of things to make yourself more secure.

The best evidence that you are successful is your continued survival. That is what we are seeing here. We now understand (if we didn't before) that FF is not imune to attack. What we also know is that it has not successfully been attacked yet. Can't say the same for IE though. Looks like FF will not guarentee your safety, but it is the safer bet by far.
