What does popularity have to do with it?
---It appears that as Firefox grows in popularity more and more security problems are being discovered with it.---

Sorry, your logic doesn't follow. Coincidence does not equal causality. How has increased popularity of Firefox led to the discovery of security problems? So far, none of the problems found have resulted in any exploits in the wild, as one would expect to find if popularity was a factor here.

Instead, why not think of it as product maturity? Firefox is still a fairly new product (only on version 1.0.3. Maybe it's just that over time, more people are seeing the code and that it takes time for serious review. Age is more of a factor than popularity.
