"we vote for these people then plead for programs, mandates and the like all costing tons of money.
When we ask less from governments they'll need less money. Sadly in the end we're our own worst enemy."

It's funny how I relate many things in life to The Simpsons...
An episode with Teaches looking for more money for the school -
Teacher: "We're doing it for your children," Townspeople: (mutter in agreement to one another)
Principal: "We have a very tight budget. In order to give the teachers a raise, we'd have to raise taxes."
Townspeople: (mumble in discomfort)
Teacher: "It's your children's future,"
Townspeople: all concur.
Principal: Lifts his hand in view of the parents and simply rubs his thumb, forefinger and index finger together. ie. money.
Townspeople: murmur and grumble, "Oh, no. More taxes".
And so forth it goes, to and fro.
