"Something to remember, we vote for these people then plead for programs, mandates and the like all costing tons of money. When we ask less from governments they'll need less money. Sadly in the end we're our own worst enemy."

Down here in Texas there are two religions, this is not an invitation to flame religion, anyway there are two religions those practiced on Sunday in white buildings on the corners and then there is high school football.

As a small example of a larger problem, in the 20 plus years I have lived here I have watched tax increases to remove the original grass in the football stadium for astroturf. Now astroturf has fallen in disfavor with the proteams (that was the argument not injuries or age of the field) a tax increase was passed to put in grass again. Rather than the city or the school employees maintaining the field a specialist is now permannetly hired to maintain the field year round. Oh yeah at the same school there continue to be roof leaks that go unfixed and brand new Taj Mahal additions added.

As for the legislatures not needing more money well maybe not. from the Fed level on down I have seen jolly good ideas (mandates) passed because some gov official thought it was a good idea. These people are like crack heads, they are hooked on our money and do not know how to say no.

All in all though yep you hit the nail on the head.
