Harmless but still Annoying
I will always purchase online due to the fact that the state I live in barely has the consumer market I'm looking for (computer tech mostly). I'm not looking at cost, but rather availability. I won't say that I don't find that most of the online prices beat what you may find in a local store . . . for me, that is a perk not a requirement for me shopping online. If the state I live in gets their way and I find that I will end up paying more money to support them, then so be it - it won't stop me from buying online. It is frustrating to know that the state you live in is in sooooooo much of a 'whats in it for me' mindset that this has to be an issue, this is true; but when has this ever been different? There is a tax for everything - I moved from California, where I just bought a car and payed taxes there, then paid taxes again for my car when I got to South Carolina. It makes you scratch your head wondering why a state would make profit from the purchaser just because an item was purchased outside of their state. Double taxation comes to mind. They say now that you are able to claim paid taxes on your tax form, but unless you are willing to keep all your reciepts for the year it really isn't worth the effort.
Bottom line: I will not stop purchasing from the internet because of the outstreached palms of a given state, but it is still annoying to know that a state feels like they are due when I don't belive they are.
