Unimpressed
The recording industry was making so much profit in the years
when everybody had to pay over and over, to hear the same
song. They were happy. But when people were able to record
them and copy them so they would never have to pay for the
same song ever again they cried unfair.

Along came the iTunes store and they were happy again, they
were back in control of how people paid and played their music,
with the disabling codes attached to each song to satisfy their
greed.

But now someone else is showing a profit and building and they
are crying. Not because they have no profit, not because they
care about the consumer, not because their profits aren't
sufficient to be unseemly, but because they see a possibility of
more and they aren't getting it.

The sooner we put these organisations that believe 'greed is
good' to rest, the better.

There should be no such thing as digital rights for music, or
software, or anything else for that matter, beyond a reasonable
period. Say ten years. Nobody expects you to pay every time you
read a book, or every time you look at a painting? Why every
time you hear a song.

You see a movie you have paid to hear the soundtrack. You
listen to the radio, again you have paid by purchasing products
whose advertising has paid for your right to hear that song, you
buy the record, it gets scratched, you buy the tape it gets
mangled, you buy the CD it gets scratched, how many times
have you paid but you still don't have the song.

Has anyone ever offered you a discount because you have
already paid for the right to hear this song? No. Why? Because
the media is what cost the money.

The song, like the painting, and like the book, was written only
once, was recorded only once, but all of us keep paying and
paying and paying. Because of the media. But if we use our own
media that we have paid thousands of dollars for, (computers,
monitors, speakers, amplifiers, CD recorders, software, etc.) to
make our own copy, off of a poor quality copy on the internet,
they cry foul.

And now we should feel sad that they aren't making the big
bucks they want to be making? Even though we are back to
paying over again.

I would like to use an expletive here to say go away. But it would
not be polite, and I can't otherwise express my anger and
frustration at an industry that has been ripping me and my
generation off for the past forty odd years.

I hope the Recording Labels go down the drain in a real big
hurry.
