Well, as others have pointed out..
Freeware was doing this well before Microsoft. Microsoft's terraserver does not show the whole world like the others do. And Microsoft's terraserver does not map addresses like all the others do.
So, pretty much Microsoft copied the freeware and did a piss poor job of it.
