Conyers, supports Bell lower bandwidth
Glad to see that you support the concept of journalistic freedom in the Internet, however, when you supported the Bells in legislation that would reduce their responsibilities to share lines according to the 1996 Communciations Act, you essentially supported letting Bloggers host their own blogs on servers connected to 56k lines.

The Bells put the kabosh on my SDSL line from a DSL competitor by taking my nice fast 412 kb line speed and putting it in a local loop that reduced my line speed to little more than an ISDN speed approximately 128k. When I complained to my Congressman, you included, about this absurd and outrageous sabotage, I recieved letters from SBC about being sorry for my inconvenience..blah blah blah, from each and every email I sent to my congressmen. You included. I received 3 letters of apology, about being able to do nothing. Then imagine my surprize when I saw you pushing for the Bells to be allowed to not live up to the line sharing requirements.

Instead of putting the Bell's feet to the fire, you defended their right to be allowed to get out from under "oppressive" rules, that didn't make them respond to clear demand from their customers to get high speed to the home going. We could run our own servers, etc... with a decent FTTH line. Instead, the Bells basically drove every DSL provider out of business...sabotaged their business and cried about cable's unfair advantage.

Now, we are still paying excessive prices for phone service.

If you want freedom of the press, support aggressive legislation to get the Bells to make the investment they should have a long time ago. Crack down on the greedy phone companies to get FTTH so real Journalistic servers can operate.
There's a blog for you.
