...Thanks for the reply. In truth, I agree with a lot of what you're saying here. I may not see it as quite the problem that you do, but I respect your concerns. Contrast your reply to me with Jeff's above, and you can see why I don't have the slightest inclination to credit Jeff's rantings, whatever grain of 'truth' they may contain.

I can't say I necessarily agree that all forms of communication should be completely free of some kind of oversight. After all, while it may be the print and broadcast media that today are under the 'control' of special interests, it is entirely likely that emerging forms of communication will come to be dominated in the same way. Thus, to me, the issue isn't quite so clear cut. Certainly if I were running a 'blog', I wouldn't want the government telling me what I can or can't post. But at the same time, if expect to be respected as a 'journalist', I would expect to hew to the same standards of professionalism and responsibility.
